Tata EV Dominates E4W Sales: 5,343 Units Sold, MG Follows

Indias EV Sales Grow 20 2

Tata Motors, a leading Indian automaker, reported its sales figures for February 2025, revealing a complex picture in the electric vehicle (EV) market, particularly for electric four-wheelers (E4W).

EV Sales Performance: Tata Leads, MG Follows

Tata Motors sold 5,343 E4W units in February 2025, maintaining its position as the market leader despite a 23% year-on-year decline from 6,923 units in February 2024.

This decline initially reported as 22.82% in the details but aligned with the title’s 23%, reflects challenges in the EV segment, likely influenced by the expiration of the FAME II subsidy in March 2024.

The FAME II scheme, known as the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles in India, had previously incentivized fleet sales, leading to a preponement of purchases in the fourth quarter of FY24 (January to March 2024).

As a result, February 2025 saw a sharp decline in the fleet segment, although personal segment retails grew slightly. Recovery is anticipated in coming quarters, with strong enquiry pipelines and the festive season from August expected to boost sales

MG Motor India, on the other hand, reported total sales of 4,002 units in February 2025, with over 78% of EVs, translating to approximately 3,121 E4W units.

This positions MG as the second-largest player in the E4W segment for that month. The MG Windsor EV, achieving a production milestone of 15,000 units, is the No. 1 selling electric car in India, highlighting growing consumer preference for MG’s electrified models (JSW MG Motor India February 2025 Sales).

Beyond E4W sales, Tata Motors’ total passenger vehicle (PV) sales, encompassing both domestic and exports, totalled 46,811 units in February 2025, a decline of 8.79% from 51,321 units in February 2024.
